Where's Your Smile?

Key: C Minor
Metre: 4/4
Overseer: Mr. Vile

This piece developed originally from a simple piano riff I made up while messing about on my keyboard. This piano riff made it into the piece as the two saxophone parts rather than the piano part though.

I don't generally like writing for drums because I find the infinite possibilities a little mentally exhausting. But this piece simply HAD to have a hi-hat so I caved in. The tenor saxophone is traditionally notated in the treble clef, but I couldn't be having with the hassle that would entail since the leger lines would collide messily with the lyrics.

These are the lyrics that I'm most proud of I think. Once I'd got the idea that Mr Vile's caged elf was singing jazz to him, the words followed very easily, along with the music. The piano part's the easiest to play of all of them but I feel very happy about it. There are two chords that come in during the chorus, Fm7 and Cm/Eb that I really liked, so much that for a while the chorus was a bit longer. In the end I couldn't justify doing that just to make those chords more prominent so I cut it.
