This song was inspired by the friendship between Markus and Leperfish and Markus' in-story depression. So really it was the scene that came before the music with this one. The idea of Markus being all sad and depressed and then Leperfish suddenly appearing and giving this heartfelt song accompanied by a sort of 50s/60s pop piano accompaniment cracked me up. Replace Markus and Leperfish with Frodo and Samwise and maybe you'll get where I'm coming from.
I don't have too much else to say about it except that it kinda flirts on the border of being in F major rather than C, though in the end I decided its tonal centre was really more around C. Just... just nod and move on.
